Jayprakash Jangada

Mr. Jangada has over thirty-five years of experience working in India and the United Kingdom. His areas of expertise include: heat transfer equipment design, combustion of all fuels, fired heaters , boilers and waste heat boilers , project management, project costing, Solar engineering, Solar applications, Solar technology (particularly Parabolic trough, CFLR, Scheffler SolarDish, FLR), and Engineering software programming. Mr. Jangada currently serves as the Vice President and Advisor on Technology at Thermax, Inc. He is responsible for Renewable Solar Energy, Oil and Gas, and Solar Thermal technology evaluation in Germany, Spain, and the US. Mr. Jangada’s noted achievements include: design of the Solar Dish; design, manufacture, and project management of first OTSG in the world for burning Bitumen for SAGD process in Canada; design of integrated solar heating and cooling –system design , equipment design;  engineering standardization across the company; and conducting various DTC projects. He holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Walchand College of Engineering Sangli and his post graduate work includes an M.Tech in Heat transfer from the Institute of Technology in Bombay. Mr. Jangada’s training includes Boilers at Zurn Industry in the US, Dow Therm Vaporizer in the US, Reverse flame boilers in Switzerland , Waste heat boilers in Germany  and USA , Air pre-heaters in Germany, and Fired heaters in the US,Oil field eqipment in Canada, Fired heaters in USA and France. 


Babul Patel

Dr. Patel has over thirty years of professional experience working in the field of power generation, refinery plant operation, mining industry, and energy delivery and management projects. As a project team member Dr. Patel has participated in the engineering design, equipment specification, bid preparation, bid evaluations, construction support, startup, plant acceptance testing, operator training, and plant operation through the warranty period for various Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects, including small and large combined cycle and co-generation plants, distributed power and steam generation plants, retrofitting and re-powering of existing power plants, mining and refinery expansion and upgrade projects. He has also worked on retrofit projects for the life cycle betterment for improved performance and/or to meet new environmental regulations for existing plants. Dr. Patel has been working on solar thermal projects for last four years, including studies for Integrated Solar Combined Cycle (ISCC) projects. Dr. Patel has also worked on advanced gasification technology for coal, coke, waste coal, refuse derived and biomass fuels. He has also worked on new and emerging technologies, such as fuel cell demonstration projects, micro-turbines, and energy storage systems. Dr. Patel holds a Ph.D., Engineering, from the University of Nebraska, an MS, Chemical Engineering, from the University of Nebraska, and a BS, Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology. He is a registered Professional Mechanical Engineer and a registered Professional Chemical Engineer, State of California. Dr. Patel is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and has participated in standards development for American National Standards Institute – ANSI.


Nick Rosen

Author, broadcaster and award-winning documentary-maker Nick Rosen is author of How To Live Off-Grid (published by Doubleday, June 2007), a witty and persuasive guide to escaping the rat race, written as he travelled round Britain in an RV; the book is part of his ecological campaign to change the rules on zoning permission via his website www.off-grid.net.  Nick’s documentary films have been shown on PBS Frontline and CBS 60 Minutes in the US. His articles have appeared on Reuters wire and in the London Times, Washington Post, The Sunday Times, Artforum and many others. After studying Philosophy to Masters level at Exeter and Georgetown University, Nick returned to London and joined a government-funded team "measuring the quality of life" - the very first Happiness surveys. He then started a market research company called ‘Generalisations’ and was hired by Skandia and Duracell, amongst others, to advise them on new product development.  In 2004 he produced Sacred Ground, the fight for Ground Zero, for PBS and Channel 4 – a highly acclaimed film about the battle to build a meaningful memorial at Ground Zero. He is currently writing a book about Off-Grid America and making a feature documentary on the same subject.


Tom A. Williams

Mr. Williams has been involved in energy research since 1978, with a focus on characterization and simulation of advanced technologies.  A particular emphasis of his career has been in concentrating solar power systems, where he has authored many technical papers, was issued a U.S. patent, and acted as Manager of NREL’s Concentrating Solar Power R&D program from 1991 through 2001.  His career has now included hands-on responsibility for all aspects of laboratory technology management including technology creation, technology evaluation, and partnering with industry.  His passion is for developing high-performance teams, effective organizations, and successful collaborations. Mr. Williams earned an MBA with an emphasis in business economics, from the University of Washington and a BS in chemical engineering, from the University of Washington. Mr. Williams is FY06 Chairman, DOE Technology Partnerships Working Group (TPWG) Executive Board, a Laboratory Representative, DOE Technology Transfer Working Group (TTWG), a Laboratory Representative, Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC), a Member, Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM), and a Member, Licensing Executives Society (LES).


Darren Kimura

He is a Certified Energy Manager, Certified Demand Side Manager, Certified Distributed Energy Professional and Certified Sustainable Development Professional. He holds a B.B.A. from the University of Hawaii. Mr. Kimura's board and directorship experiences include the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Sopogy, Inc. member of Hawaiian Electric's Integrated Resource Planning Committee, Co-chairperson of the Hawaii Energy Policy Forum, member of the State of Hawaii's Department of Business Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) Energy Advisory Group, member of the Governors Innovation Council, Co-Chairperson on Governor's Capital Formation Committee, Director at the Hawaii Strategic Development Corporation (The State of Hawaii's Venture Capital fund), Director at the Boy Scouts of America Aloha Council, Director at the Hawaii Science and Technology Council.
